Did you know being in the house of God does not equate to spiritual growth? There are many people in church that are just seat warmers. One of the main reasons of church is growth. Through sermons, bible studies, fellowships, outreach etc, we should often feel conviction whether it be from a word or someones actions. This conviction should then lead us to reflection and admittance. This is when change begins to happen. If this is not happening, what is the point of your walk with Christ? If nothing in your life needs changing, you're saying you don't need Jesus and so what is your purpose?
To feel conviction is not to feel shame. We should not be too prideful to acknowledge our flaws. Instead we should be glad our hearts are being stirred, that we recognise our sinful ways and rejoice in our desires to please the Lord.
Conviction comes from the Holy Spirit. This is a good way of indicating whether or not God is with you. So if you aren't changing, maybe it's time to question yourself and ask why.
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God-this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
